BMW has revealed its eighth-generation 3 Series for Australia, with the new sedan bringing the brand’s Neue Klasse technology and design language to both combustion and fully electric models.

The Australian range will launch from the first quarter of 2027 with four variants: the BMW 320, M350 xDrive, i3 40 xDrive and i3 50 xDrive, priced from $83,900 before on-road costs.

For the first time, Australian buyers will be able to choose between combustion and electric power within the same generation of BMW’s long-running sports sedan. The petrol-powered 320 and M350 xDrive share their underlying design and digital architecture with the electric i3, rather than the two powertrain types being treated as separate model generations.

The new 3 Series adopts BMW’s latest design language, with familiar sports-sedan proportions joined by a revised interpretation of the brand’s four-eyed front end, sharper surfacing and a more prominent grille.

Inside, the biggest change is the adoption of BMW’s latest digital interface, including Panoramic Vision, a 3D Head-Up Display, BMW Operating System X and the latest BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.

The M350 xDrive sits at the top of the combustion range, combining a six-cylinder petrol engine with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology to produce 326kW and 580Nm, with a claimed 0-100km/h time of 4.1 seconds.

The electric i3 range uses BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology and an 800-volt electrical architecture. The i3 50 xDrive produces up to 345kW and 645Nm, with a claimed WLTP range of up to 912km, while the i3 40 xDrive offers up to 710km.

DC charging at up to 400kW is also available across the electric range.
