BMW M has reached one million vehicles produced, with the Munich plant responsible for the milestone car set to build the first fully electric M3 from 2027.
BMW M has built its one-millionth vehicle, marking a milestone for the performance division as it prepares to move into the electric era.
The milestone car is an M3 finished in BMW Individual Fire Orange III, built at BMW’s Munich plant, which will also become the exclusive production site for the first fully electric M3.
The electric performance sedan will be the first high-performance model to use BMW M Neue Klasse technology, following the electric i3 into production at Munich. BMW has not yet detailed the electric M3’s technical specifications.
The milestone comes more than 40 years after the original M3 went on sale, with production of the current-generation model beginning in Munich in 2020.
BMW is investing approximately €650 million to transform its Munich facility into an electric-only production site. From 2027, the plant will manufacture only fully electric vehicles, following extensive upgrades to its body shop, assembly facilities and logistics areas.
The transition represents a significant change for BMW’s historic production site, which has been operating for more than a century. It also signals the next phase for BMW M, as the brand looks to retain its performance focus while adopting fully electric powertrains.
