Chery Group's newest automotive brand, Lepas, is preparing to enter the Australian market with the L6 EV, a mid-size electric SUV due to launch locally in October.
Positioned around what Lepas calls its "Bold by nature" philosophy, the L6 combines a distinctive exterior design with a premium-focused interior and a comprehensive suite of technology.
The L6 is the first model developed around Lepas's new LEX platform, an architecture designed to support both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains across future models.
For the L6 EV, the platform is paired with a 65kWh LFP battery and a front-mounted electric motor producing 160kW and 275Nm. Lepas claims a 440km WLTP driving range, with energy consumption rated at 17.5kWh/100km.
DC fast charging can take the battery from 30 to 80 per cent in approximately 22 minutes, giving the L6 competitive charging convenience for everyday use.
Inside, the five-seat SUV features an 8.88-inch digital driver's display and 13.2-inch infotainment screen, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an eight-speaker Sony sound system, wireless smartphone charging and heated and ventilated front seats.
A panoramic glass roof, powered tailgate, ambient lighting and synthetic leather upholstery add to the L6's premium positioning.
Technology is also a major focus, with Automatic Parking Assist, Remote Parking Assist and a 360-degree Around View Monitor among the standard equipment. Safety systems include seven airbags, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking and lane departure prevention.
Visually, the L6 adopts smooth, sculpted bodywork and slim LED lighting inspired by the eyes of a leopard, giving the newcomer a distinctive identity as Lepas attempts to establish itself in Australia's increasingly crowded mid-size SUV market.
The L6 EV will make its Australian public debut at Everything Electric at Sydney Olympic Park from 18–20 September, ahead of its October launch.
Pricing and further details will be announced closer to the Australian launch.
With the L6 EV, Lepas is entering one of Australia's most competitive vehicle segments with a combination of 440km range, fast charging, premium equipment and the backing of Chery Group's growing electrification expertise.
Whether that combination can make the newcomer stand out will depend heavily on where Lepas positions the L6 on price - something that won't be revealed until closer to launch.
